Our Story

Mayo is a platform with purpose. To help people help each other.

Mayo started with a simple idea. That the people nearby us are the people who can help us the most. Technology has given us many more avenues for communication, but it has also made us feel even further apart from our communities and our neighbors.

You can talk to a stranger across the globe, fund a kickstarter on another continent, or even date someone who lives in another state, all thanks to the magic of technology. Yet we’re often even more disconnected from our own neighbors now that we have a phone or a computer to serve as a barrier.

When was the last time you asked someone around you for the little help that could have changed your day? Or offered to go to the grocery store for your neighbor with a broken leg? Did you even know your neighbor broke their leg?

We wanted to remove the social barriers to asking and offering for help. Connect people with the people who can help the quickest – the people nearby.

We believe in a world where you can talk to anyone freely, ask for help, and blur the lines of a stranger and a friend.

We’re a team of diverse designers, developers, marketers, and college students based in Seattle (mostly) that believe in the value of in-person human connection and community.

We come from different cultures (American, Canadian, European, Indonesian, Japanese, Chinese…) with different experiences (Amazon, Airbus, Microsoft, T-Mobile, University of Washington, Startups…).

Mayo brought us together because we believe in the same mission. We all love our ‘screens’ or we wouldn’t be building an app, but we believe in the power of physical presence. We love working on something that could truly make a profound change to people’s lives.
